Pomegranate Studios is a dance school and performing arts organization, nestled in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico. Established in 1996 by Founder/Director Myra Krien, Pomegranate provides high-quality instruction in Raks Sharqui and fusion forms of bellydance. In addition to their regular classes and workshops, Pomegranate Studios is known for its award-winning and innovative Pomegranate SEEDs® (Self-Esteem, Empowerment and Education through Dance) programming which provides dance alongside mentorship and life skills, with programs for teens, children, and adults. The annual SEEDs Teacher Training certifies dance instructors who want to bring change to the youth of their communities in the SEEDs method. The resident dance company, The Mosaic Dance Company, is nationally and internationally renowned and has been providing community performances as well as large-scale theatrical productions since 1996.
Education
This art form is a celebration, come join us! Pomegranate Studios is a warm, inclusive dance school for everyBODY, whether you are a true beginner or a more experienced dancer. Various levels of instruction naturally build upon one another, providing a solid foundation for not only technique and movement but for artistic and personal expression. In addition to the movements themselves, our classes emphasize cultural awareness, historical context, and musical fluency.
Students progress through foundational and intermediate classes and are given an opportunity to perform in our Student Salons which take place 2-4 times per year. Those who wish to go on in the exploration of performance may, by invitation, become pre-professional members of the Mosaic Dance Company, or take private lessons and work on solo choreography.
Outreach
Pomegranate Studios is committed to serving youth through its Pomegranate SEEDs® (Self-esteem, Empowerment and Education through Dance) Youth Mentorship Program. We have collaborated with such organizations as Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico, Santa Fe Youth Shelters, and Santa Fe Public Schools to provide this powerful programming to the youth of our community. In addition, over 125 instructors have been certified to teach the Pomegranate SEEDs® program, and presently, there are over 38 SEEDs programs are up and running throughout the United States and Mexico.
In addition, Pomegranate Studios and Mosaic Dance Company donate 40+ shows per year to non-profit organizations and community events in Santa Fe.
Artistry
Myra Krien and The Mosaic Dance Company present over 60 shows, residencies and workshops annually to New Mexico, the United States, and beyond, from large-scale stage productions to restaurants and local events and functions. Myra Krien is a highly sought-after instructor, dance mentor, choreographer, and performer.
Additionally, Pomegranate Studios hosts workshops and performances from some of the most renowned international artists in our field every year, such as Kaeshi Chai, Tamalyn Dallal, Shareen el Safy, Carolena Nericcio, Megha Gavin, Sahra Saeeda (Kent), Astryd de Michele, Karim Nagi, Beatbox Guitar, Serefe, The Georges Lammam Ensemble, The Fringe and many others.
